Software Engineer (Windows)
About Ubiquiti
At Ubiquiti, our mission is to rethink IT by building high-performance, beautifully designed systems that redefine how people connect, work, and interact with their data.
UniFi Drive is our next-generation network-attached storage (NAS) solution — seamlessly integrated into the UniFi ecosystem. It enables users to store, access, and manage data across local and cloud environments with speed, reliability, and simplicity. More than just storage, it's evolving into a unified data platform that powers everything from seamless backup and secure remote access to smart collaboration and intelligent data orchestration.
We envision a world where storage is not a separate product, but a deeply integrated foundation throughout the UniFi ecosystem — powering real-world user workflows and enabling next-level performance, resilience, and simplicity at scale.
As part of the UniFi Drive team, you'll help shape this vision into reality. You'll contribute to platform architecture, cross-device integration, developer-facing tools, and next-generation experiences that will define how data moves and lives within the UniFi ecosystem and beyond.
We’re looking for engineers who enjoy solving deep problems, challenge conventional thinking, and care about building things that are both elegant and impactful. If that sounds like you, let’s talk.
Responsibilities
- Design and build the core synchronization and metadata handling logic for UniFi Drive on Windows, enabling reliable access to files across local and cloud environments.
- Build platform-integrated file experiences by working with Windows system behaviors and APIs, with a focus on correctness, performance, and native user expectations.
- Tackle non-trivial system problems that emerge in real-world usage, such as handling change, coordination, and edge cases across devices and environments.
- Collaborate closely with backend and infrastructure teams to align on data models, APIs, and end-to-end reliability.
- Work with product and design partners to translate user workflows into robust technical solutions, balancing system constraints with usability.
- Continuously improve performance, stability, and maintainability through measurement, profiling, and iterative refinement.
Requirement
- 3+ years of professional software development experience, or equivalent experience, building and shipping production systems.
- Hands-on development experience on Windows, with familiarity with the Windows development ecosystem and real-world production workflows.
- Strong computer science fundamentals, with the ability to reason clearly about complex system behavior and engineering trade-offs.
- Ability to build clear mental models, decompose ambiguous problems, and make thoughtful engineering decisions rather than relying solely on predefined patterns or recipes.
- Solid programming skills in C++ or C#, with attention to correctness, readability, and long-term maintainability.
- Proficient with Git and modern development workflows, including code review, incremental delivery, and collaboration within a team.
- Comfortable navigating uncertainty, asking good questions, and working effectively in a fast-evolving platform environment.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Windows platform concepts such as file systems, processes, threading, memory management, or system services.
- Experience working with networked or asynchronous systems, including REST APIs, WebSocket, WebRTC, or similar mechanisms.
- Experience designing or implementing synchronization logic or data coordination workflows.
- Background in storage, backup, or data-heavy systems, including NAS or hybrid local–cloud environments.
- Experience optimizing performance, memory usage, or I/O-heavy workflows, or debugging subtle issues in production systems.
Benefits
- International work environment and work with global development teams.
- Excellent work conditions.
- Competitive package we can and do offer great pay, perks, and benefits.
- Group insurance; Health insurance.
- Flexible working patterns.
- Free drinks and snacks in the office.
